    Shisha and Dokha Tobacco

Both have Arabic tobacco origins, but that it where the similarities end. Shisha is a washed bright leaf or oriental tobacco with a nicotine content of .05%. It is mostly known to be a social or after meal treat. Dokha on the other hand is a completely different variety. It is believed to have originated from one of the original Orinoco strains. Hundreds of years of select breeding and climate adaptation have made dokha its own unique strain ranging in nicotine contents of 2%-5% nicotine. only a small amount is smoked out of its traditional medwakh pipe or mixed with shisha to up the nicotine content. https://kingdomdokha.com https://kingdomdokha.com/history-of-dokha-tobacco/ https://kingdomdokha.com/dokha-faq/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/smoking-dokha-a-beginners-guide/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/counterfeit-dokha-filter/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/dokha-alternative-tobacco-products/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/dokha-drug-part-1-indigenous/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/everything-about-the-medwakh/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/economic-importance-dokha-tobacco-uae/
  5. THE HISTORY OF DOKHA TOBACCO IN THE MIDDLE EAST By admin | December 13, 2017 The history of Dokha begins with traditional Native American tobacco. These ultra-intense strains of wild North American tobacco were introduced to the old world by the European travelers and explorers. This tobacco advanced toward North Africa and spread east to Egypt, the Levant, and at last to down to the Arabian Peninsula. These one of a kind strains eventually reached places like Al-Buraimi in Oman and the Hatta Valley in present day United Arab Emirates. Tobacco was introduced to the Middle East in the form of a tall water pipe called a hookah or ?nargile? in Arabic and Turkish. Due to the cost and maintenance of hookah smoking, tobacco was typically reserved for the elite of the time. Dokha was later created as an inexpensive and simple method of smoking for every class to enjoy. The first record of dokha in history goes back to the late 1500’s in the mountains of northern Iran where it was used recreationally and medicinally by the local population. During the 1800’s dokha turned into a mainstream trade in the Arabian Peninsula and surrounding regions. Farmers would cultivate and sell their product to British mariners and officers whom occupied the region during that era. With the advent of the cigarette at the turn of the 20th century, dokha took the backseat as the tobacco form of choice. It wasn’t until the 1980’s that dokha and the culture around it saw a massive resurgence in popularity in the Persian Gulf. Popular as a niche tobacco in the Middle East for generations, “dokha” is the unadulterated, traditional, and unique Arabic tobacco. Unlike most tobaccos, dokha is not fire or air cured and cut, but rather sun-dried in the arid desert from which it’s cultivated. This subspecies of nicotiana is grown in extremely hot and dry conditions. These conditions combined with watering restrictions puts stress on the plant prompting it to increase nicotine and other alkaloid production. The dried leaves are finely ground within a few days or up to a few weeks as to preserve the color, quality, freshness, and flavor. Due to the far lesser degree of processing, dokha tobacco shows up basically unaltered and keeps up the green hue of the normal plant. The tobacco is then carefully mixed with leaves from each segment of the plant. The resulting mixes are regularly grouped into light or “barid”(cold dokha), medium or “daffi” (warm dokha), or hot or “harr” (hot dokha) blends. In the past, residents of these desert regions smoked dokha because it gave them an invigorating and soothing head rush or ?laf raas?. However, since it’s arrival, different farming methods and selective breeding has made some amazing progress for this tobacco throughout the years. What we have today is a far superior tobacco product that has been perfected for generations. In the history of dokha, traditionally it was blended with dried flowers, herbs, spices, and other flavorings to cool the strength and harsh temperature of the tobacco and enhance different flavor notes. Some Iranian and Turkish mixes would be blended with the barks and leaves of indigenous local plants. Unlike the history of dokha,? present day Dokha, due to the demand of the market, is essentially 100% unadulterated tobacco without any additives like other tobacco products, which are fermented, aged, and processed with fillers and chemicals. And unlike most tobacco, dokha is cultivated using only fish meal and without the use of herbicides and pesticides. When compared to other tobacco products, Most smokers who have delved into dokha are captivated by its unique attributes, the satisfactory buzz it gives to the smoker, and the superior flavor versus cigarettes, rolling tobacco, cigars or other pipe tobaccos. Throughout the history of dokha, individuals that smoke noticed several advantages over other tobacco products besides the satisfying buzz. Because of the small amount of smoke and lack of chemicals, the smell of the smoke will not stick to any surface or fabric. Your hair, hands, and clothes will not smell unpleasant or invasive to other individuals around you. Nicotine stains on your hands will be a thing of the past. The amount of plant material smoked is far less causing less strain on your lungs. A cigarette contains between 1.4 to1 1.9 grams of tobacco versus 0.13 to 0.15 grams in a bowl of dokha. Dokha is smoked out of a small narrow pipe called a “Medwakh.” The length of the pipe and narrow chamber are designed to keep the smoke as cool as possible. The design of the pipe as well as the front tip near the bowl serve both functional and symbolic purposes. Symbolically, There are two shapes the front of the medwakh can possess. The curved tips represent a falcon’s talon. Falcon hunting is a national sports and favorite past time in the region. The straight tip represents the front of a canoe, paying tribute to the rich sailing tradition of the Persian Gulf. Functionally, The tip can be cupped in the palm of the hand allowing it to be lit in the constant desert winds. Originally, hollowed animal bones were utilized as both pipes and storage containers. Today, skilled workers carve these pipes using a variety of local and imported woods. Other materials such as bone, ivory, and an assortment of metals both common and precious are also used in creating these pipes. Higher quality Medwakh are often accompanied with a container or ?chanta? that there is a wide variety of styles of medwakh to accommodate everyone’s personal taste. The History of dokha has seen many variations from the original all leading to the truly excellent product that we know today. https://kingdomdokha.com https://kingdomdokha.com/history-of-dokha-tobacco/ https://kingdomdokha.com/dokha-faq/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/smoking-dokha-a-beginners-guide/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/counterfeit-dokha-filter/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/dokha-alternative-tobacco-products/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/dokha-drug-part-1-indigenous/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/everything-about-the-medwakh/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/economic-importance-dokha-tobacco-uae/

  7. INDIGENOUS TOBACCO USE, IS DOKHA A DRUG? By admin | January 3, 2018 ?THE CULTURAL AND CEREMONIAL SIGNIFICANCE OF TOBACCO USE IN INDIGENOUS PEOPLES OF THE AMERICAS. The earliest recorded instances of tobacco use stem from the Andes Mountains in Modern Day Argentina dating back nearly 2,000 years. By 600CE it is theorized that tobacco was found throughout the entirety of the Americas. Indigenous cultures from the very lowest tip of South America all the way to the Metis and First Nation tribes of northern Canada cultivate, harvest and even revere the plant as a sacred gift to be respected and used in a variety of functions. These ranged from gift giving as a sign of respect when asking counsel or advice from an elder to armistice in war, and convening with the gods. This cultural significance carried over into the old world as tobacco was introduced into Asia and the Middle East, not so much as a religious tool, but as an important table mate among family and political affairs in the form of Narghila. WIDE SPREAD USE The tobacco genus Nicotiana originated in the Andes Mountains. The snuffing of wild tobaccos is prevalent throughout the oral histories of the indigenous residents of the Jujuny Province, a prominent tobacco growing region in the South. Pachamama is one of the oldest ceremonies incorporating tobacco and is still in practice today. Pachamama is an Andean deity who is the Earth/Time Mother and her festival takes place right before the harvest at a time when good behavior is necessary in order to avoid the mischief of the season. This agrarian celebration is meant to give thanks for what the land has provided and to ponder the complimentary nature of opposite forces such as hot vs. cold, good vs. evil and the intertwined connection between the material and spiritual world. The ritual is led by a tribal spiritual leader (or family elder in the case of smaller, personal ceremonies) and starts with the digging of a hole for ?challar? which means to feed and give drink to the land. The hole is filled with a fermented corn liquor, coca leaves and tobacco. Burning tobacco bundles are placed around the hole by each member, with parents lighting the bundles for the younger members of the tribe. This tobacco takes on a supernatural characteristic and as the smoke rises upward it carries messages to and from the spiritual world. NORTH AMERICA Much further to the north the Metis and First Nation People of Canada incorporated tobacco in their own unique and slightly more utilitarian way. It was often used for smudging and clearing the area of any unwanted spirits or entities before commencing with other rituals. The Metis inhabited the great lakes area and were notorious open-water voyagers. They typically rowed arduous 14 hour days on trips over several hundred miles. A stop was required for a couple minutes every hour in order for the rowers to rest and regain their strength and to enjoy a pipe. This became so important that a journeys distance could be measured in ?pipes?, which was a little over two miles. A nine mile lake could be said to be about 4 pipes in length. This paddling tradition lasted for hundreds of years before more modern steam and later gas engines became a more useful way to navigate the lakes of the area. Further to the south the Lakota tribe smoked from a long and decorative pipe they called Chanunpa. Coming from the Sioux language for sacred or ceremonial, the Lakota believe that the Chanunpa was a gift from the White Buffalo Calf Women to be used in one of Seven Sacred Rites needed in order to bridge the gap between the physical world and ?the great Mystery? known as Wakan Tanka. Tobacco was given as a gift from people seeking shelter or protection or as an offer of peace in times of war. Before smoking the pipe, it was required to place a small amount of the leaf into a hole or a pool of water as a way of sharing with the earth and rooting the smokers to the land that they occupied at that present time. All of the separate pieces of the pipe have a specific ceremonial meaning and are symbolic of the relationships between humans, plants, and animals and their individual roles and presence within the cosmos. With each ceremony the Lakota not only pray for themselves, but for every individual and the entirety of all creation. PIPE RITUALS It is interesting to note that French missionaries in Illinois used a pipe called a Calumet during Catholic conversion ceremonies with the Mi?qmak. Later historians have criticized this as a subversive move by the church to use a peoples own culture in order to ?trick? them into converting. This practice is one of the only documented Christian rituals concerning the use of tobacco as a spiritual tool and its consumption is generally rejected by all denominations. The Taino Indians of the Caribbean gave the Spanish conquistadors their very first look at tobacco in 1492 and have what is probably the most consistently celebrated Tobacco ceremony. The Ritual is performed the evening of every Full Moon, during both the Equinoxes and Solstices and the late fall ceremony to honor the ancestors. First a piece of Caribbean Sandalwood known as Tabonuko is lit and the pipe is passed over the smoke to represent the four sacred directions. A hit of the pipe is taken and the smoke is blown in each direction one at a time to honor the spirits of Open-Mindedness, Inner Sight, Wisdom and Enlightenment. Next a puff is taken and blown into the ground to honor mother and grandmother, and one is blown upwards to honor the Father and Brother. The pipe is then smoked as often as one needs to in order to send all of their prayers upwards to the spirits and set in front of an image of an ancestor until it burns out. The tobacco is then emptied outside into the soil and buried in the Earth. MANY MEANINGS It is clear that tobacco has played a pivotal role throughout a widespread and diverse selection of people over the course of millennia. Nearly every ceremony from South America, through the Caribbean and upwards toward northern Canada have similarly over-riding themes: Connection with Mother-Earth, convening with the spiritual world and the mysteries that lie beyond our physical realm, keeping the peace and honoring the ancestors that came before. The pure scope of influence that tobacco has had is a testament to the versatility and importance of the plant among the indigenous cultures of the ancient world. https://kingdomdokha.com https://kingdomdokha.com/history-of-dokha-tobacco/ https://kingdomdokha.com/dokha-faq/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/smoking-dokha-a-beginners-guide/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/counterfeit-dokha-filter/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/dokha-alternative-tobacco-products/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/curing-tobacco-methods/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/dokha-drug-part-1-indigenous/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/everything-about-the-medwakh/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/economic-importance-dokha-tobacco-uae/

TOBACCO PRODUCTS IN COMPARISON TO DOKHA By admin | July 2, 2018 THE TREND OF ALTERNATIVE TOBACCO PRODUCTS HAS HAD A SIGNIFICANT EFFECT ON THE TOBACCO MARKET IN RECENT YEARS. THE DEMONIZATION OF “BIG TOBACCO” AND GROWING HEALTH CONCERNS OVER PROCESSED CIGARETTES STEER MORE CONSUMERS TOWARDS ATP’S OR ALTERNATIVE TOBACCO PRODUCTS. THIS EMERGING MARKET HAS SEEN SIGNIFICANT GROWTH IN RECENT YEARS, PARTICULARLY AMONG LATE TEEN AND INDIVIDUALS IN THEIR TWENTIES. NICOTINE EXTRACTION AND UNADULTERATED TOBACCO PRODUCTS ARE BY FAR THE MOST PREVALENT, WITH DOKHA TOBACCO AND VAPING PRODUCTS BEING THE MOST POPULAR. THESE PRODUCTS HAVE SEEN A RAPID GROWTH IN MARKET SIZE IN THE LAST DECADE, PARTICULARLY IN THE UNITED STATES AND EUROPE. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE MANY OTHER LESSER KNOW ATP’S AVAILABLE FOR CONSUMERS. DOKHA ? DOKHA IS A PURE, UNADULTERATED, ARABIC NICOTIANA TABACUM STRAIN THAT HAS BEEN SELECTIVELY BRED TO GROW IN THE CLIMATE OF THE PERSIAN GULF. MOST FORMS OF? CIGARETTE/CIGAR TOBACCO ARE PROCESSED AND AGED. DOKHA DRIES RELATIVELY QUICKLY TO PRESERVE THE NATURAL COLOR AND TASTE OF THE TOBACCO. THIS ALSO HELPS MANTAIN A HIGH NICOTINE CONTENT WHILE REMAING VERY SMOOTH COMPARED TO STRAINS OF NICOTIANA RUSTICA. DOKHA IS SMOKED OUT OF A SMALL PIPE CALLED A “MEDWAKH”. THESE PIPES ARE MADE FROM A VARIETY OF MATERIALS AND HAVE A CHANGEABLE FILTERED TIP AT THE END. THE ADVANTAGES OF DOKHA ARE NUMEROUS. BESIDES BEING ADDITIVE AND CHEMICAL FREE, ONLY A FEW PUFFS ARE NECESSARY TO DELIVER A POWERFUL, SATIFTYING BUZZ. SMOKING DOKHA WILL ALSO KEEP THE SMOKERS HAND, CLOTHES, AND HAIR SMELLING SMOKE-FREE. IT IS BECOMING MORE POPULAR IN THE UNITED STATES AND THE UNITED KINGDOM IN THE PAST FEW DECADES. YOU CAN FIND ALL OF OUR FINE BLENDS AT?HERE HOOKAH/SHISHA ? ALTHOUGH THE EXACT ORIGIN OF THE HOOKAH IS STILL DEBATED, IT WIDELY ACCEPTED THAT HOOKAH OR “NARGILA” IN ARABIC ORIGINATED SOMEWHERE IN MODERN DAY IRAN OR AFGHANISTAN. THIS TALL, ORNAMENTAL WATER-PIPE WAS SMOKED BY THE ELITE OF THE REGION. IT RUMORED TO HAVE BEEN CREATED BY A DOCTOR AS A “HEALTHIER” METHOD OF SMOKING DUE TO THE VERY LOW BURNING TEMPERATURE OF THE TOBACCO ITSELF AND THE COOLING AND FILTERING NATURE OF WATER IN ITS BASE. TRADTIONAL SHISHA WAS A LIGHT, TOMBAC OR ORIENTAL SUN-DRIED TOBACCO NATURALLY LOW IN NICOTINE WHICH WAS MIXED WITH MOLASSES. TODAY, SHISHA TOBACCO IS MOSTLY MADE FROM VIRGINA BRIGHTLEAF TOBACCO THAT IS BOILED AND WASHED TO LOWER THE NICOTINE AND TAR EVEN FURTHER AND REMOVE MOST OF THE TOBACCO FLAVOR. A SMALL AMOUNT OF VEGETABLE GLYCERIN IS ADDED TO THE BLEND AS WELL AS A VARIETY OF FLAVORED SYRUPS. MIDDLE EASTERN SHISHA IS STILL MIXED WITH MOLASSES WHILE AMERICAN MADE SHISHA IS TYPICALLY MIXED WITH HONEY. ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES/VAPING ? BY FAR THE MOST RAPIDLY GROWING ATP MARKET IN THE LAST DECADE, VAPING E-JUICE HAS SEEN A MASSIVE RISE IN POPULARITY IN THE UNITED STATES. E-JUICE CONTAINS NICOTINE EXTRACTED FROM NICOTIANA RUSTICA, VEGETABLE GLYCERIN, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, AND ARTIFICIALLY FLAVORED SYRUP. A VAPORIZER NORMALLY CONSISTS OF BATTERY, MAIN HOUSING, INTERCHANGEABLE CARTRIDGES, AND AN ATOMIZER OR CARTOMIZER. THE BATTERY GENERATES POWER TO THE HEATING ELEMENT IN THE ATOMIZER OR CARTOMIZER, WHICH CONTACTS THE E-JUICE AND TRANSFORMS IT INTO WATER VAPOR TO BE INHALED. THE IDEA OF NICOTINE DELIVERY WITHOUT PLANT COMBUSTION IS THE ARGUMENT FOR VAPING BEING A HEALTHIER PRODUCT. ALTHOUGH THIS SEEMS REASONABLE TO SOME PEOPLE, NO LONG TERM STUDIES HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED ON VAPING AND IT’S EFFECTS ON THE BODY. RECENTLY, RESEARCHERS HAVE BEEN LOOKING INTO A LINK BETWEEN CASES OF PNEUMONIA AND VAPING DUE TO THE INHALATION OF WATER VAPOR INTO THE LUNGS. SMOKELESS TOBACCO ? SMOKELESS TOBACCO IS A TOBACCO PRODUCT THAT IS OFTEN REFERRED TO AS CHEWING TOBACCO OR “DIP”. RATHER THAN PROCESSING TOBACCO LEAVES IN LONG STRIPS FOR USE IN CIGARS OR CIGARETTES, IT IS COARSELY SHREDDED AND OFTEN MOISTENED WITH ADDED SWEETENERS OR FLAVORINGS. THIS TOBACCO IS TYPICALLY SOLD LOOSE IN A PACKET OR FORMED INTO SMALL CANS THAT ARE KNOWN AS PLUGS. A WAD OF TOBACCO IS PLACED BETWEEN THE LOWER LIP AND GUMS WHERE NICOTINE IS DELIVERED THROUGH THE THIN MEMBRANE IN THE LOWER MOUTH. SMOKELESS TOBACCO IS TYPICALLY MADE FROM FIRE-CURED DARK LEAF TOBACCO SUCH KENTUCKY DARK, PERIQUE, OR OTHER HYPRIDS. LIKE VAPING, THE ARGUMENT THAT ELIMINATING PLANT COMBUSTION HAS A BETTER OVER ALL HEALTH EFFECT. EXTENSIVE RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT SMOKELESS TOBACCO CARRIES THE SAME DAMAGING EFFECTS AS SMOKING TOBACCO. IN FACT, SOME SMOKELESS TOBACCO PRODUCTS HAVE SHOWN TO CONTAIN EVEN HIGHER CONCENTRATIONS OF NITROSAMINES KNOWN TO CAUSE CANCER. SNUS ? ANOTHER SMOKELESS TOBACCO PRODUCT THAT IS VERY SIMILAR TO AMERICAN DIP OR CHEW. SNUS TRACES IT’S ORIGIN BACK TO 18TH CENTURY SWEDEN AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO DRIED SNUFF OR SNORTING TOBACCO. THE MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHEWING TOBACCO AND SNUS IS IN THE TYPE AND PREPARATION OF THE TOBACCO. WHERE CHEWING TOBACCO IS FIRE-CURED DARKLEAF, SNUS IS MADE FROM ORINACO OR BRIGHTLEAF TOBACCOS THAT ARE PASTEURIZED. THIS REDUCES THE HARSHNESS AND ACIDITY OF THE TO FINISHED PRODUCT ALLOWING THE USER’S SALIVA TO BE SWALLOWED INSTEAD OF HAVING TO BEING SPIT OUT. THIS IS DESIRED BY CONSUMERS AS IT IS LESS INVASIVE TO OTHER INDIVIDUALS. SNUS IS DRY AND MORE FINELY GROUND THAN CHEWING TOBACCO. CONSUMERS CLAIM IT HAS A BETTER, SWEETER TASTE. SNUS HAS GAINED RAPID POPULARITY IN THE UNITED STATES AND EUROPE WITH THE CLAIMS THAT SNUS IS LESS HARMFUL THAN CHEWING AND SMOKING TOBACCO. ALTHOUGH THIS IS STILL WIDELY DEBATED, RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT SNUS CONTAINS FAR LESS NITROSAMINES AND CARCINOGENS THAN CHEWING TOBACCO AND CERTAIN SMOKING TOBACCO PRODUCTS. RISK TO ORAL ISSUES SUCH AS GUM DISEASE, TOOTH LOSS, HEART ISSUES, AND ORAL CANCERS STILL REMAIN. SNUFF ? SNUFF IS A DRIED, FINELY GROUND OR POWDERED TOBACCO THAT IS INHALED OR SNORTED INTO THE NASAL CAVITIES. IT IS THE SAME TYPE OF TOBACCO AND ESSENTIALLY PROCESSED THE SAME WAY AS CHEWING TOBACCO WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT IT IS UN-MOISTENED AND UNFLAVORED. SNUFF WAS THE EARLIEST FORM OF SMOKELESS TOBACCO THAT BECAME POPULAR IN EUROPE, ESPECIALLY AMONG WOMEN WITHIN THE ELITE AND ROYAL CLASSES. SMOKING TOBACCO WAS CONSIDERED “UNLADY-LIKE”. THEREFORE, THIS DISCREET METHOD OF OF TOBACCO CONSUMPTION WAS CREATED AS AS ARGUEABLY THE FIRST ALTERNATIVE TOBACCO PRODUCT. RAPEH (PRONOUNCED “HA-PAY”) ? COMING FROM THE JUNGLES OF SOUTH AMERICA, THIS IS A VERY POWERFUL SHAMANIC FORM OF SNUFF. THIS TOBACCO HAS BEEN USED BOTH MEDICINALLY AND CEREMONIALLY FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS BY TRIBES AROUND THE AMAZONIAN BASIN. IT CONSISTS OF NICOTIANA RUSTICA, SACRED ASH TREE, AND OTHER MEDICINAL HERBS THAT ARE GROUND INTO A FINE POWDER. THE RUSTICA TOBACCO IS TYPICALLY PROCESSED IN THE MAPACHO STYLE. LEAVES ARE MARINATED IN WATER, HONEY, VANILLA, AND SPICES THEN FIRE-CURED FOR SEVERAL DAYS OR UP TO A WEEK. LIKE SNUFF, THE TOBACCO IS CONSUMED THROUGH THE NASAL CAVITIES. INSTEAD OF THE BEING SNORTED HOWEVER, RAPEH IS BLOWN THROUGH A SPECIAL PIPE CALLED A “TEPI” INTO BOTH NOSTRILS BY ANOTHER PERSON. THERE ARE SPECIAL “V” SHAPED PIPE CALLED A “KURIPE” TO SELF-ADMINISTER RAPEH. ONLY RECENTLY HAS RAPEH MADE IT’S WAY ONTO THE SCENE IN NORTH AMERICA AND EUROPE. DUE TO STRICT EXPORTATION LAWS AROUND RAPEH IN MANY SOUTH AMERICAN COUNTRIES, THE AVAILABILITY OF THIS PRODUCTS IS STILL SOMEWHAT LIMITED. BIDIS ? THESE ARE SMALL, HAND-WRAPPED, UNFILTERED FLAVORED CIGARETTES ORIGINATING AND STILL VERY POPULAR IN INDIA. BETEL LEAVES AND/OR HIGH NICOTINE DARK STRAINS OF INDIAN TOBACCO SUCH AS JAFFNA OR KANBURI ARE ROLLED WITH OTHER HERBS OR FLAVORINGS INSIDE A TENDU LEAF AND TIED BY A SMALL STRING ON ONE END. CALLED THE “POOR MAN’S SMOKE” IN INDIA FOR CENTURIES, BIDIS HAVE GAIN POPULARITY IN THE WEST AND ARE OFTEN MARKETED AS MORE OF A NATURAL AND HERBAL SMOKING ALTERNATIVE. ALTHOUGH QUALITY AND INGREDIENTS CAN GREATLY VARY, RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT BIDI CIGARETTES CAN ACTUALLY BE MORE HARMFUL OVERALL THAN CONVENTIONAL CIGARETTES. RECENTLY THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION HAS BANNED THE SALE OF BIDIS IN THE UNITED STATES DUE TO THE FLAVORINGS THAT ARE ADDED TO THIS ALTERNATIVE TOBACCO PRODUCT. CLOVES/KRETEK ? ORIGINATING IN INDONESIA IN THE 19TH CENTURY, CLOVE CIGARETTES IRONICALLY WERE CREATED AS A METHOD OF RELIEVING CHEST PAIN AND USE VERY LITTLE TO NO TOBACCO. LEGEND HAS IT, A LOCAL DOCTOR IN THE CENTRAL REGION OF JAVA ATTEMPTED TO TREAT HIS PATIENTS BY RUBBING CLOVE OIL ON THEIR CHESTS. HE SOON REALIZES THAT A GREATER RESULT CAN BE ACHIEVED BY SMOKING A MIXTURE OF TOBACCO AND CLOVE BUDS. CLOVE CIGARETTES TYPICALLY CONTAIN AN EQUAL PORTION OF TOBACCO, CLOVE BUDS, AND HERBS, FLAVORINGS, AND/OR SPICES. ONE BRAND OF CLOVE CIGARETTES CONTAINS OVER 30 DIFFERENT TYPES OF TOBACCO. THE NAME “KRETEK” IS GIVEN TO THE BLEND DUE TO THE CRACKLING SOUND IT MAKES WHEN IGNITED. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT 90% OF SMOKERS IN INDONESIA CONSUME SOME KIND OF CLOVE CIGARETTE PRODUCT. THIS IS DUE THE EXTREMELY HIGH GOVERNMENT TAX ON TRADITIONAL “WHITE” CIGARETTES AS THEY’RE REFERRED TO BY LOCALS. CLOVES HAVE BECOME A VERY POPULAR PRODUCT IN THE WEST AMONG CASUAL OR SOCIAL SMOKERS. THIS IS DUE TO THE LOWER NICOTINE CONTENT AND PLEASANT, AROMATIC TASTE AND SMELL OF CLOVE CIGARETTES. LIKE BIDIS,? THE SALE OF CLOVE TOBACCO PRODUCTS IS SUBJECT TO BAN IN THE UNITED STATES DUE TO THE FLAVORS AND ADDITIVES THAT ARE PRESENT. THE GROWING SENSE THAT TRADITIONAL PROCESSED TOBACCO AND MANUFACTURED CIGARETTES ARE LESS THAN IDEAL IS BECOMING EVER MORE PRESENT TO THE CONSUMER. CHEMICALLY STRIPPED, LOW QUALITY TOBACCO THAT IS RECONSTITUTED AS FILLER IS SHOWN TO BE MORE HARMFUL THAN JUST THE TOBACCO PLANT IN ITS NATURAL STATE. THE CANCER RATE AMONG NATIVE AMERICAN TRIBES THAT SMOKE UNPROCESSED RUSTICA TOBACCO IS AN INTERESTING CASE-STUDY WHEN EXAMINED MORE CLOSELY. IT IS CLEAR THAT THE CONSUMERS ARE LOOKING AT ALTERNATIVE TOBACCO PRODUCTS MORE AS TIME PROGRESSES. HEALTH CONCERNS, HIGH TAXES ON CIGARETTES, BEING LESS INTRUSIVE TO OTHERS, OR HAVING THE SOMETHING NEW ARE ALL FACTORS WHY THIS PARTICULAR MARKET HAS SEEN SUCH A DRAMATIC SURGE IN THE LAST FEW DECADES. https://kingdomdokha.com https://kingdomdokha.com/history-of-dokha-tobacco/ https://kingdomdokha.com/dokha-faq/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/smoking-dokha-a-beginners-guide/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/counterfeit-dokha-filter/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/dokha-alternative-tobacco-products/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/curing-tobacco-methods/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/dokha-drug-part-1-indigenous/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/everything-about-the-medwakh/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/economic-importance-dokha-tobacco-uae/

Dokha Tobacco - The Birth of a Giant

THE HISTORY OF DOKHA TOBACCO The history of dokha tobacco begins with traditional Native American tobacco. These ultra-intense strains of wild North American tobacco were introduced to the old world by the European travelers and explorers. This tobacco advanced toward North Africa, Egypt, the Levant, and at last to down to the Arabian Peninsula. These strains reached places like Al-Buraimi in Oman and the Hatta Valley in present day UAE. Tobacco was introduced to the Middle East in the form of a tall water pipe called a hookah. Also called ?nargile? in Arabic and Turkish. Due to the cost and maintenance of hookah smoking, tobacco was typically reserved for the elite of the time. Dokha was later created as an inexpensive and simple method of smoking for every class to enjoy. DOKHA APPEARS The first record of dokha in history goes back to the late 1500’s in the mountains of northern Iran. Here it was used for recreation and medicinally by the local population. RISING IN POPULARITY Popular as a niche tobacco in the Middle East for generations, “dokha” is the unadulterated, traditional, and unique Arabic tobacco. Unlike most tobaccos, you do not fire or air cure dokha.? Rather, dokha is sun-dried in the arid desert from which it’s cultivated. This subspecies of nicotiana is grown in extremely hot and dry conditions. These conditions combined with watering restrictions puts stress on the plant prompting it to increase nicotine and other alkaloid production. The dried leaves are finely ground within a few days to a few weeks as to preserve the color, quality, freshness, and flavor. Due to the lesser degree of processing, dokha tobacco is basically unaltered and keeps up the green hue of the plant. The tobacco is then carefully mixed with leaves from each segment of the plant. The resulting mixes are regularly grouped into light or “barid”(cold), medium or “daffi” (warm), or hot or “harr” (hot) blends. INTO THE MODERN AGE In the past, people smoked dokha because it gave them an invigorating and soothing head rush or ?laf raas?. However, different farming methods and selective breeding has made some amazing progress for this tobacco throughout the years. What we have today is a far superior tobacco product. Traditional dokha was frequently blended with dried flowers, herbs, and spices to cool the harsh temperature of the tobacco and enhance different flavors. Some Iranian and Turkish mixes would be blended with the barks and leaves of indigenous local plants. Present day Dokha, is essentially 100% unadulterated tobacco without any additives. Other tobacco products, are fermented, aged, and processed with fillers and chemicals. And unlike most tobacco, dokha is cultivated using only fish meal and without the use of herbicides and pesticides. THE SUPERIOR SMOKE When compared to other tobacco products, most smokers who have delved into dokha are captivated by its unique attributes. The satisfactory buzz it gives to the smoker, and the superior flavor versus cigarettes, cigars or other pipe tobaccos is evident. Our customers can be assured that our dokha blends are pure, organic, additive-free and of the highest quality. We source our dokha from some of the oldest family farming groups and growing regions in the Middle East. Our relationship with them ensures that quality and fair pricing be passed on to you, the customer. Individuals that smoke dokha notice several advantages over other tobacco products besides the satisfying buzz. However, with a clear conscious we cannot call our product a healthy alternative. This is still a tobacco product. THE MEDWAKH You smoke dokha out of a small narrow pipe called a “medwakh”. The length of the pipe and narrow chamber are designed to keep the smoke as cool as possible. The design of the pipe as well as the front tip near the bowl serve both functional and symbolic purposes. Symbolically, There are two shapes the front of the medwakh can possess. Curved tips represent a falcon’s talon. Falcon hunting is a national sports and favorite past time in the region. The straight tip represents the front of a canoe, paying tribute to the rich sailing tradition of the Persian Gulf. Functionally, The tip can be cupped in the palm of the hand. This allows it to be lit in the constant desert winds. Originally, hollowed animal bones were utilized as both pipes and storage containers. Today, skilled workers carve these pipes using a variety of local and imported woods. Artisans use other materials such as bone, ivory, and an assortment of metals to create these pipes. Higher quality medwakh are often accompanied with a container or ?chanta?. There is a wide variety of styles of medwakh to accommodate everyone’s personal taste. Cleaning a Medwakh Pipe

Join the Kingdom! Traditional Arabic medwakh pipes are made a variety of materials with unique artistic designs but all carry the same basic shape and bowl size. The bore drilled though the shaft is purposefully narrow to keep the smoke from expanding down the chamber. This expansion naturally makes the smoke hotter and more difficult to take it deeper. The is key with dokha tobacco due to the natural strength and higher nicotine content of the smoke. The down side of the narrow chamber is, of course, it will clog up more quickly with resins. Its is important to keep we well filtered and cleaned medwakh pipe. Although dokha has absolutely has no chemical or additives, the tar in the smoke will plug it up rather quickly and make for a less satisfying, clean hit. To properly clean a medwakh pipe: 1. Remove and discard the filter tip. 2. Take a medwakh cleaning tool, long pipe cleaning tool, or thick gauge piece of wire and run it through the chamber towards the bowl. Do this several times. Resins will slowly begin to collect in the bowl. 3. Take the spoon end of the cleaning tool and scoop the resins out of the bowl. 4. Repeat step 2 and 3 again. 5. take a very, very small sliver of cotton or paper material and ball it up. Place on the end of the chamber opposite of the bowl. Take the wire and cleaning tool and push the word through he chamber until it appears on the bowl. Remove. 6. Put on a new medwakh filter tip and enjoy! https://kingdomdokha.com https://kingdomdokha.com/history-of-dokha-tobacco/ https://kingdomdokha.com/dokha-faq/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/smoking-dokha-a-beginners-guide/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/counterfeit-dokha-filter/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/dokha-alternative-tobacco-products/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/curing-tobacco-methods/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/dokha-drug-part-1-indigenous/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/everything-about-the-medwakh/ https://kingdomdokha.com/education/economic-importance-dokha-tobacco-uae/

    Counterfeit Dokha Accessories

At https://kingdomdokha.com we only cary authentic products from overseas. Beware of certain counterfeits or knock-offs out there! COUNTERFEIT DOKHA FILTERS, MEDWAKH AND ACCESSORIES By admin | February 5, 2019 COUNTERFEIT FILTERS LIKE ANY RISING INDUSTRY, COMPANIES ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO CASH IN TO MAKE A QUICK TURNOVER REGARDLESS OF QUALITY, REPUTATION, OR GENERAL BUSINESS ETHICS. THE DOKHA AND MEDWAKH INDUSTRY IS CERTAINLY NO EXCEPTION GIVEN THE INCREASE IN POPULARITY OUTSIDE OF THE MIDDLE EAST IN THE LAST FEW DECADES. COUNTERFEIT OR LOW QUALITY PRODUCTS ARE BECOMING MORE COMMON IN THIS PRESTIGIOUS SMOKING TRADITION, NON MORE SO THAN THE MEDWAKH FILTERS. MEDWAKH PIPES HAVE BEEN TRADITIONALLY SMOKED FILTERLESS FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS. THE END OF THE CHAMBER WOULD TAPER DOWN, BECOME THINNER TO FIT THE LIPS BETTER. ALTHOUGH DOKHA IS UNPROCESSED AND CHEMICAL FREE TOBACCO, IT DOES CONTAIN A HIGHER CONTENT OF NICOTINE AND TAR PER WEIGHT COMPARED TO MOST TOBACCO PRODUCTS. IT WASN’T UNTIL THE EARLY 2000’S THAT TRADITIONAL FARMS WORKING WITH MEDWAKH CARVERS BECAME MORE HEALTH CONSCIOUS WITH THE IDEA OF FITTING A FILTER TIP AT THE MOUTHPIECE. THE FILTERS BECAME AN INSTANT SUCCESS THROUGHOUT THE PERSIAN GULF REGION AND THE UNITED KINGDOM. NOT ONLY DID THESE FILTERS REDUCE THE NICOTINE AND TAR, THEY PROVIDED A MUCH CLEANER, COOLER, AND OVERALL MORE ENJOYABLE SMOKING EXPERIENCE. THE ORIGINAL INDUSTRY STANDARD FILTER WAS PRODUCED BY TOKAI CORPORATION OF JAPAN, A CUTTING EDGE MANUFACTURING COMPANY SPECIALIZING IN RUBBER AND OTHER SPECIALTY PLASTIC COMPOSITE PRODUCTS. THEY PRODUCE A FILTER TIP WITH COTTON IN THE CENTER THAT FITS THE STANDARD DIAMETER OF A CIGARETTE. MEDWAKH MAKERS FIT A METAL PIECE ON THE END OF THE PIPE THAT THE FILTER WOULD STRETCH OVER. THESE DISPOSABLE FILTERS HAVE BECOME THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE AND ICONIC ACCESSORY IN THE DOKHA AND MEDWAKH INDUSTRY. HOW TO SPOT A FAKE SEVERAL CHINESE MANUFACTURERS HAVE BEEN PRODUCING LOW QUALITY, COUNTERFEIT BIO-PIPE FILTERS IN SIMILAR PACKAGING. THESE KNOCK-OFFS HAVE VERY SMALL OPENINGS AND AIR-FLOW WITHIN THE FILTER AND AN INFERIOR COTTON PIECE. PRODUCTION QUALITY ALSO VARIES GREATLY. THESE ARE SURPRISINGLY PREVALANT. ONE GROUP IN THE UNITED KINGDOM SOURCED BOXES FROM SEVERAL COUNTRIES AND FOUND THAT OVER 90% WERE THE CHINESE COUNTERPARTS. A QUICK LOOK AT THE PACKAGING CAN DISTINGUISH THE LEGITIMATE PRODUCT FROM THE FRAUDS. THE ORIGINAL FILTERS WILL HAVE “ANICO FILTER” WITHIN THE GREEN BANNER AT THE TOP, “MADE IN JAPAN” WITHIN THE BLACK BUBBLE AT THE CENTER, AND DOESN’T HAVE ANY GREEN KANA LETTERS PRINTED IN THE LOWER-LEFT CORNER OF THE BOX. THE FRAUDS HAVE KANJI LETTERS WITHIN THE GREEN TOP BANNER AND THE BLACK BUBBLE IN THE MIDDLE. THE IMAGE ABOVE SHOW BOTH PRODUCTS. THE AUTHENTIC TOKAI FILTERS ARE ON THE LEFT AND THE FAKES ARE THE RIGHT. DOKHA SMOKERS SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF THIS AND BE WARY WHEN ORDERING THESE FILTERS ONLINE BECAUSE CHANCES ARE YOU’LL RECEIVE THE COUNTERFEIT PRODUCT. WHEN ORDERING ONLINE THERE ARE A FEW BRANDS OF MEDWAKH FILTERS THAT ARE OF HIGH QUALITY WITHOUT FAKE COUNTERPARTS. SANDA BRAND FILTERS HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR OVER A DECADE AND COME IN A WHITE BOX. TURBO FILTER AND FADAYEE FILTERS ARE ALSO SOLID FILTER PRODUCTS. DENICOTEA, A GERMAN COMPANY, ALSO PRODUCE EXCEPTIONAL FILTERS. THESE HAVE A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT DESIGN. INSTEAD OF HAVING AN ENTIRELY DISPOSIBLE TIP, THESE DESIGNS HAVE A HIGH QUALITY AND AESTHETICALLY PLEASING PERMANENT TIP WITH A REPLACABLE INTERAL FILTER CARTRIDGE. DENICOTEA TIPS HAVE BECOME VERY POPULAR IN THE EMIRATES IN RECENT YEARS, ESPECIALLY AMONG INDIVIDUALS WITH ORNATE MEDWAKHS. ALONG WITH FILTERS, CHINESE MANUFACTURERS? PRODUCE LOW QUALITY MEDWAKHS AS WELL. MANY OF THESE PIECES HAVE INCONSISTENT QUALITY AND QUESTIONABLE MATERIALS. PARTICULARLY, SOME INDIVIDUALS HAVE REPORTED RECEIVING EXPENSIVE, COUNTERFEIT “CAMEL BONE” MEDWAKHS.
